Congratulations to Mary Heinzen, Executive Director on receiving the Susan P. Smith Award from Tennessee Primary Care Association!
This award, named in honor of Susan P. Smith, recognizes outstanding contributions in advancing health center programs and working to strengthen the partnerships between health centers and Association staff. The TPCA staff selects the receipt of this award. Smith was certificated family nurse practitioner and a member of the U.S. Public Health Service Commission Corps. In the mid-70s, she provided nursing services to a community health center in Bean Station, Tennessee. She also helped organize the Association and served on its board as an officer and director for three years.
From TPCA– Mary Heinzen, CEO of Hardeman County Community Health Center, has demonstrated exemplary leadership at Hardeman County, facilitating growth and success for her staff and the communities Hardeman services. In recent months, this has been accomplished through dynamic and thoughtful approach to nutrition services provided through telehealth, in partnership with TPCA and the Dietitian Association in Memphis, Tennessee. Mary’s leadership, and Hardeman’s participation in nutrition initiative, has empowered her staff to positively engage patients, resulting in several patients reducing HbA1c levels and BMI. Additionally, those patients have the same opportunity to learn clean eating habits with fresh ingredients from Hardeman’s Community Garden in Stanton.
